The Mountains of Oman

The mountain rock in parts of Oman are very unusual and does not occur in very many parts of the world. The mountains around this area were formed by a collision between plate techtonics. The rock that the mountains are made up of is ophiolite - the lower half being oceanic crust and upper mantle rocks.
Instead of being pushed to the ocean floor - the oceanic crust was pushed out onto land with mantle rocks on top. There are unusual formations
and beautiful scenic areas.
The bottom two picts: the view from Carey and Chad's patio at sunrise, sunset over the mountains on the way home from the road trip (through the car window).
Because of our exhausting day, the decision was made to do carry-out for dinner - traditional Omani cuisine - Pizza Hut pizza...
Tomorrow - Road trip to Dubai - stay tuned
